Anguissola Rooms
The name of our guesthouse is dedicated to Sofonisba Anguissola (1532-1625); one of the most celebrated painters of the Italian Renaissance, recognized for her exceptional talent in an era when art was dominated by men. Born in Cremona to a noble family, Sofonisba received an in-depth artistic education, a rarity for a woman of her time.
As the wise man says...
An old Cremonese proverb says that:
“Töti i ustéer i dìis che el so vìin lè püsèe bòon”,
“All innkeepers say that their wine is the best.”
Regarding our establishment, we are absolutely certain that we can offer you something unique, carefully designed to provide you with the best experience during your stay in our Cremona, a city that we love and want to become increasingly well-known and visited.
Beyond conventions
Her ability to portray realistic expressions and vivid emotions in her subjects earned her the respect and admiration of contemporaries, including renowned artists such as Michelangelo. Sofonisba spent much of her career at the court of Philip II of Spain as an official portraitist, where she created some of her most famous works. Her work not only challenged the gender conventions of the time but also paved the way for future generations of female artists.
